February Overview: Colombia

The Panorama Lighthouse is a section that is responsible for highlighting the most important releases in Ibero-America and is published simultaneously in all the media that make up the alliance, thus multiplying its reach and visibility. Every delivery updates us on the struggles in each of our countries, currently going through the reality of COVID-19, and on the news of their musical ecosystems. As we always say, there is much to discover out there. If you want to know what the region sounds like today, this is the place and the time.

Lighthouse is composed of IndieToday (Argentina), sounds from here (Bolivia), Scream&Yell (Brazil), shock (Colombia), Magazine AM:PM (Cuba),  POTQ (Chili), Sound World and Construction Area (Spain), Indie Rocks! (Mexico), Rock Achorao' (Peru) and Piiila (Uruguay). It also works to create original and innovative content, as well as various activities that serve to break down borders and build bridges between the different countries of Ibero-America.

Colombia

By Fabian Paez Lopez / Shock.co

In Colombia, and in the rest of the continent, a marathon day of events, festivals and launches is approaching. The nostalgia for presentiality now overwhelms us with a tumultuous overload. Plus, soon, we are just days away from presidential elections in the country. But let's skip that for now, and talk about music.

In February, a short but substantial month, Shock debuts the editorial selection of Musical bets12 young careers that we will accompany especially during this 2022. And as we prepare for the Jamming Festival and for the Stereo Picnic Festival in March, we recommend these releases.

Chimbita Combo is a group of Colombians based in New York that has been making noise for some time now in global alternative circles. They have a show and have just released their third album, I will go to. If you want to know what tropical futurism sounds like, listen and read.

Combo Chimbita: the optimistic catharsis of IRÉ, their most recent album

After the release of the live album in 2021 Shock Presents: What (was) goneDj and producer Julio Victoria has a lot to tell. First, he is preparing a new EP: and this one, Spiral, is his first song. He is also working on a new version of his live act for the Estéreo Picnic 2022 Festival. Highly recommended.

Kiño is an old guard mc from the city of Medellín. Thomas Parr, also from Medellín, beatmaker and mc, is one of the representatives of the new generation of rap paisa. Two generations in Raritya beat that plays with afrobeats and rough vocals. Fit mountain rap.

Fractal is he first track of Margarita Siempre Viva's upcoming albumundoubtedly one of the jewels of Colombian indie music. A nostalgic song about a magical object, as if to contemplate the past. Margarita is also one of the local bands that will perform at the Estéreo Picnic Festival.

The band Yo No La Tengo from Bogota has premiered Lords and masters in Fevertheir debut EP, and was a Shock favorite in 2021. Postpunk ironic and unprejudiced. A political theme that is also a warning for a wild time coming up: the elections.

Hi-Kymon is making a name for itself through perseverance and beats fine. Already here in Weather She is a duo with the Argentinean rapper, Delfina Dib, who has been welcomed in Colombia. The duo is explosive. A trap from start to finish to taste heaven and hell.

Fire and Ice is a song by Silvanna produced by Nico Sanz, also featuring Katsu.msc and Camilo Soka. A fresh collaboration for sleepless nights.
