February Outlook: Chile

The Panorama Lighthouse is a section that is responsible for highlighting the most important releases in Ibero-America and is published simultaneously in all the media that make up the alliance, thus multiplying its reach and visibility. Every delivery updates us on the struggles in each of our countries, currently going through the reality of COVID-19, and on the news of their musical ecosystems. As we always say, there is much to discover out there. If you want to know what the region sounds like today, this is the place and the time.

Lighthouse is composed of IndieToday (Argentina), sounds from here (Bolivia), Scream&Yell (Brazil), shock (Colombia), Magazine AM:PM (Cuba),  POTQ (Chili), Sound World and Construction Area (Spain), Indie Rocks! (Mexico), Rock Achorao' (Peru) and Piiila (Uruguay). It also works to create original and innovative content, as well as various activities that serve to break down borders and build bridges between the different countries of Ibero-America.

Francisco Victoria arrived with his second album just in time to open the doors of February. The producer also burst in with his album Garment during 2018 and had us waiting for what would be its successor: Wound. A plate where the pop matures and falls from the tree, an act that hurts but at the end of the day is natural and inevitable. Adolecer is perhaps not only something for fifteen year olds; perhaps adolecer is a condition that accompanies us in our 20s, 30s and beyond. Eight songs where the darkness becomes bearable and passable under the liberating pop that it presents.

Andrés Quezada has not only been highlighted as one of the most interesting names in young classical music, he is also behind an ensemble that is saying goodbye this year. Narval Orquesta are 11 musicians and musicians who take artpop, free jazz and classical and electroacoustic currents to give us truly immersive experiences. During February they premiered Hedgehogsthe first preview of what will be their farewell album: Buttons. An album that was already presented live in 2021 and that this 2022 arrives on platforms and hopefully in physical form. A tidy song in its structure, full of sharp details that lead the musician to take a chance on the guitar for the first time in this project.

Son of the region, the Chilean does not cease in the exploration of the roots, the popular and the mainstream more current. After a compilation of covers with which he said goodbye last year, Gepe returns to the unpublished with 4:40 a.m.This is a catchy cumbia that seems to be destined for radio success and was co-composed by Puerto Rican Raquel Sofía, as well as a high quality video by Bernardo Quesney.

"Think about what we would build together, think about the path that no one has explored yet, think about something you wished you could improve because it made you sad. Think and let's try to do it together." is heard in the new Caravana, a project that plans its third album for 2022. Da2 is a challenge and collaboration, which according to Rodrigo Santis (founder of the local label Quemasucabeza) grew in his head as a song where Leonard Cohen's nocturnal vibe was mixed with more urban rhythms and an indietronic reading. Working together with Martin Perez Roa, the track becomes the fourth single of the upcoming plaque.

Chile is getting ready for the tenth edition of Lollapalooza and one of the local names we are looking forward to is Mariel Mariel, who takes advantage of this premiere to tell about the relationship she has with Lido Pimienta, whom she met in Mexico more than a decade ago. "We knew the moment would come when we would sing together and it is very symbolic that it is in this song," she says about Of The Limits, a single which is a real stroll through the interpretative flow of the Chilean. An energetic ritualIn her words, with a mantric chorus that has grown over the last few years and is now complemented by the Colombian singer and lands on platforms. The single is a part of The Battlehis next plate.

Rubio is one of the local titles that will surely fill Lollapalooza and also an official part of soundtracks, as is the case of his latest release that will accompany sonically the thriller Fábula, Miss 89. Good Luck Girl serves as a bridge between the last full-length film entitled Black Handle and what is coming this year, besides being a key piece in its internationalization. The song comes with a clip recorded in Mexico and directed by Diego Riveros.

A name that helped build the foundations of what is now a healthy local contemporary urban scene. Young Cister has stepped on the big stages of the country and has blown up the most important venues in the country. underHis production seems to be an inexhaustible source of vitality for different Chilean names, and since 2018 he had us waiting for a solo plate after his glueing Xtaciss. With the summer came The Most Xulo of your InstaThis new adventure with six songs -one with Duki- will serve as an excuse for a hectic year that starts with a tour to Spain during March and April.

Humboldt and Javiera Parra teamed up during the summer of 2021 in Your Island and this summer we were given Your Island Session (Live). An indie pop song about such a common theme as love, which shows samples of two ideal voices to accompany the guitars, but before arriving in this visual delivery, leaves us with three other pieces belonging to each project: Our History, Humidity and The Map of your Trip.

A valley between Elegant Cut (2018) and what they imagine for the future. La Brígida Orquesta, a jazz rap fusion group, premiered the clip for Newbiewhich is the first sample of a forthcoming EP scheduled for April under the name of Antipode. It maintains that mysterious breeze that captivated in their last album, but they added details and techniques, such as recording on analog tape. A little futuristic, a little traditional. A duality that undoubtedly leaves us eager to know from what perspectives they will present their pieces in the coming months.

Panal is a key piece in Chilean seventies history; a kind of super band that only released a single album in 1973. This February the re-release of this homonymous work was announced after the remastering of their original tapes, so we will be able to access a physical edition that promises photos and its respective restoration. Eight reinterpretative songs that more than one would like to have in their collection because of the importance of this record in the midst of the disturbing political scenario that Chile went through that year.
