May Outlook: Argentina

By Juampa Barbero / indie today

During May, the Argentine scene demonstrated its versatility and left us with music for all tastes, in addition to a cultural agenda rich in recitals, film premieres and art exhibitions. The Big Blue, the fourth album by Bandalos Chinos, is our main recommendation in this monthly score, followed by other releases that we highlight below.

The Buenos Aires group Bandalos Chinos put an end to the wait of their followers by sharing the complete repertoire of their new album recorded at the Sonic Ranch studio, Texas. Produced again together with Adán Jodorowsky, The Big Blue it was recorded entirely on tape and in a few takes to capture the sound of the band live.

"Airs of rancheras, boleros, popular waltzes and soap opera ballads circulate through the album, dyeing the band's precise and precious pop in an essentially Latin color," says an official statement about the acclaimed successor to pop paranoid (2020). Since I can't without you until How nice it is to remember you, the band led by Goyo Degano shows a very fresh version, without losing the elegance and energy that characterizes its unique musical proposal. The premiere was accompanied by a series of videos showing the intimacy of the studio. We see the members indoors performing the pieces, as well as enjoying the pleasures of everyday scenes. "This is our most sincere project," declared the band at the interview that we publish this month.

Thunder - Right or wrong: Made up of fifteen songs, the successor to Bold (2020) displays a wide variety of colors and nuances that range from hip hop to folklore, and includes special appearances by Pedro Peligro, Nathy Peluso, Victor Heredia, Duki, Randy and Bizarrap.

die humans - Watch out: The frenetic and second preview of the imminent album Regression It was enhanced with an audiovisual piece performed by the Argentine duo based in Berlin together with the actress Sofía Gala Castiglione, Dante and Diogenes.

End of the world - The next summer: in his new single, the Patagonian group based in Buenos Aires blends into a post rock instrumentation that raises expectations to know more about their second EP.

cheetah - Dwele: From the title, the artist from Buenos Aires pays tribute to Adwele Gardner, one of the pillars of neo soul, to sing about heartbreak with the warmth that characterizes her proposal.

The programming of the sixth edition ofthe Argentine Cultural Industries Market (MICA) covered multiple projects linked to art and entertainment in different business rounds, exhibitions and proposals aimed at expanding its innovative spirit.
