May Outlook: Brazil

By Marcelo Costa /  Scream & Yell

Criolo's fifth album began to be thought of a little over a year ago in this chaotic scenario of the pandemic Brazil. The initial idea was to call it Kaos Diary (title of the opening theme), with K, for Kleber Cavalcante Gomes, the rapper's given name. The title has changed, but this is still a diary about Brazil today, about our times, from the complex and intelligent point of view of the artist responsible for the second most important album of the last decade in Brazil (according to a survey by Scream & Yell, which brought together 100 people from the world of journalism and music).

About Living It is perhaps the most painful album of Criolo's entire career, due to its sincerity and openness. It is as if the artist showed us the exposed wounds and made songs with them (know the album song by song). We often tend to understand rap as a chronicle of our time, and Criolo makes poetry of our time.

Rap is officially the central theme of the album, and it is from Criolo's verses that the other sound connections of the album unfold. At under 40 minutes, this is a powerful piece of work that unfolds in different ways. From now on, one of the great Brazilian albums of 2022, write Renan War.

MORE CULTURE:

Those who lived their 20s at the turn of the millennium are already beginning to have their first gray hairs, to take their health a little more seriously and to feel a certain nostalgia (although it may pass quickly) for the adventures of their youth. Precisely because of this nostalgia, the comic Um Lugar do Caralho, by Thiago Krening, tries to catch the reader by telling the story of a group of young friends, university students in Santa Maria. Krening provokes a whirlwind of memories in those who lived the first years of the 2000s in the south of Brazil and, why not, in other regions of the country and Latin America. A place of Caralho is the first launch of the hypothetical publisher.
