July Outlook: Brazil
By Marcelo Costa / Scream & Yell
We continue to count down the days for the presidential elections to be held in October, one of the main issues moving the country in this light winter. The polls show that former President Lula is the favorite, and he is already talking to leaders in Latin America and Europe, seeking rapprochement (the foreign policy of the Bolsonaro government was a disaster), but the race for votes really begins now and there is still a long way to go before October 2, the date of the first round.
MANOEL CORDEIRO – FESTA LEVATES: In 2020, one of the country's great guitarists, Manoel Cordeiro, was about to be defeated by Covid-19 (doctors came to inform his family that, intubated, he only had a 10% chance of coming out alive) . Fortunately, Manoel did not suffer the same fate as other 680,000 Brazilians and, to celebrate life, there is nothing better than immersing yourself in music. An encounter with Alexandre Kassin (Imperial Orchestra), Pupillo (ex-Nação Zumbi) and trombonist Marlon Sette gave rise to the instrumental album Levada de Festa (Sello Sesc), which Manoel clearly defines: «A festive album, made to celebrate the Brazilian vocation for body movement and danceable rhythms».
Multi-instrumentalist and producer, the guitarist from Pará has contributed, either as a participating musician, arranger or producer, to nearly 1,000 albums since the 1980s, most of them works that delve into the popular universe of the Amazon region. Levada de Festa it's the continuation of this journey, and it's one that will rock your body. Celebrate life yourself!

Among the various Brazilian fashion films in theaters, it stands out Following All Protocols, by Fábio Leal, an interesting look at sex and lust in times of pandemic. It is a simple film that sounds like a small part of our madness in the midst of chaos, and that is why it is so sincere and touches the viewer in such a moving way. Without shame, Fábio Leal makes a kind of polaroid about excitement in times of loneliness. Renan War count more here. See the trailer.
