Drawing Music: Jennifer Ancizar

I started talking early, according to my mother, and I think, as a way of experimenting with the sounds I was discovering, I started singing. cute little sky, Como una flor and a theme of my own authorship, Papaiwere part of Jennifer's repertoire 28 years ago.

Music, which is also the reason for this text, has always been the center of my life and I knew it, I sensed it when I was still learning to write my name and I already knew the songs, sides A and B, by heart. One day, all of a sudden and with that filter that —or yes—I went to my parents and told them: "I want you to buy me a piano, I want to be famous playing the piano". Manuel Ancizar, who was a real fucker, not only laughed, but very seriously told me: "Yes, yes, you are going to be famous. You are going to be the woman who carries the piano" (writing this I can't stop laughing at my father's witticisms). Why a piano? I don't know, but I wanted music with me and I believed that the only way to have it was with my voice and instruments.

I have suffered a lot; whoever knows me well knows how much I like to sing; I enjoy it, I need it, it changes my mood in a matter of seconds. To make a long story short and get to the year 2023 without boring: during my childhood and adolescence I always tried to keep music close to me. I danced to it -contemporary dance, Cuban folk dance, Spanish dance-, and I sang it a lot and loudly when I joined the choir of the Schoola Cantorum Coralina and in every act of La Lenin that allowed it. I never missed a Colmenita or a De La Gran Escena and I was so excited about Broadway... But I always felt that I was carrying a piano that I would never be able to play, and the weight was a feeling of frustration.

2017 arrived and life, luck and social networks allowed me to meet one of the most influential people in my life, who not only pushed me to this world of illustration, but who came with music in his blood. Since then, I have had no shortage of reasons to accompany a guitar.

I had to tell this story in order to get here, to the collageto the covers, the records, the magazines. With Mayo Bous came not only music in its natural form, but it came in colors and projects. In 2018 was born Magazine AM:PM And I, a fan of the romanticism of someone who lived the birth of an era, see that spirituality of having been there as a spectator as something almost sacred. I can say that being so close to the content of the Magazine and the creative moments of its artists, led me to become more interested in other ways of communicating. It all happened very fast: one day you post on the networks a collage The next day you have a proposal to create the cover art for a song, two months later you are changing your work format completely to the requirements of the music platforms; a year later you collaborate with the magazine that inspired you and two years later you have 90 percent of your work so linked to music that you can't believe it's finally part of your life -professionally speaking-. There have been so many exciting moments: working with artists you admire and others who are growing with you, achieving a visual melody that accompanies the lyrics, the compositions, and that ends up being a single story, is so beautiful that only by living that little piece you know how much it means.

I still die to sing, I lose my breath trying to follow someone when I watch a talent show, and still music is and will always be the medicine for my bad mood; but I feel that piano is no longer heavy, it only gives me shade and sounds pretty when I lift it up. Finding myself at the starting point, a step above to look more clearly, makes me thank my father and his jokes; my father, the one who knew I was not going to be a singer, but whistled Pablo Milanés to me so that I would never stop loving music.
