In Magazine AMPM<\/em> we couldn't let the year go unnoticed. This time, building our list was more challenging. With a small team, personal biases came to the fore, and the dominance of the cast became impossible to ignore. But should we simply let popularity dictate the pulse of the year? Or, conversely, do we have the right - and the responsibility - to go beyond the algorithm to curate a balanced, fair and diverse selection?<\/p>\n

We opted for the latter. We recognized that 2024 brought much more than the obvious: the cast as the undisputed soundtrack in Cuba and its diaspora, seeking to consolidate a more international profile while appreciating a lukewarm recognition (resignation?) of Cuban cultural institutions. But there were also songs in other genres that deserved a space in this conversation; thus was born our playlist of the year, not (only) as a recount of the most popular, but as a rescue of what usually goes unnoticed.<\/p>\n

This is the result: a selection that seeks to blur boundaries, highlight the best of national production and offer an authentic panorama of what the year sounded like in Cuba. Now we want to know, what did yours sound like?<\/p>\n
