Taken from the Teatro Mart\u00ed Facebook page.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Under the general direction of Fern\u00e1ndez himself and the production of Alina Gonz\u00e1lez, jazz, symphonic and song went hand in hand in almost two hours of music that ignored (if not melted) the presumed generic and temporal barriers, and those increasingly absurd dividing lines between the cultured and the popular.<\/p>\n<p>With a trajectory that has granted it the most prestigious recognitions, the National Concert Band -and the principal conductor Igor E. Corcuera-, this time under the baton of guest conductor Mois\u00e9s Hern\u00e1ndez, showed off its instrumental blend, timbre and colorful strength in a first part recreating certain jazz standards.<\/p>\n<p><i>The Blues Roar <\/i>(Slide Hampton, arranged by Bob Lowden), <i>Rock of Age <\/i>(Thomas Hasting) and the traditional <i>Jericho<\/i> (both orchestrated by Camp Kirkland), allowed us to applaud an ensemble that brought us closer to the richness of that primordial and at the same time renewed jazz, with exquisite variations and improvisations.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21894\" style=\"width: 970px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21894\" data-attachment-id=\"21894\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/magazineampm.com\/en\/teatro-marti-entre-la-trova-tradicional-y-el-jazz-sinfonico\/fb_img_1715216911036\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/magazineampm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/FB_IMG_1715216911036.jpg?fit=1080%2C721&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"1080,721\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-title=\"FB_IMG_1715216911036\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"&lt;p&gt;Fotos: Adri\u00e1n Juan Espinosa. Taken from the Teatro Mart\u00ed Facebook page.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With a solid training, studying and performing essential references such as Bach, Liszt and Ravel -whose influence can be appreciated throughout his work-, Gerswhin also turned to elements and rhythms of popular culture, within which jazz played a leading role. Proof of this is his emblematic <i>Rhapsody in Blue,<\/i> where the popular piano tradition, the harmonic treatment of the music of the variety theater and the atmosphere of the <i>blues<\/i> This, together with the symphonic imprint of the entire musical fabric, allows us to understand the title of \"jazz symphonist\" that was often applied to the composer and conductor.<\/p>\n<p>Then, as the pearl in the crown, the applauded rhapsody was played: the pianist and the saxophonist (now doubled as orchestral conductor) were joined by the band guided by his baton. Together, they understood and projected with authenticity the rough passages of the work.
