People who went to visit her at her house in Trinidad came out talking about a wall full of photos, because Isabel B\u00e9quer, La Profunda<\/i>He stuck in a corner the clippings of his snapshots with the greats of Cuban music.<\/p>\n

Even after her eightieth birthday, she was still receiving journalists, musicians and friends; the same girl who, at the age of seven, came by the hand of her father to the radio station B\u00e9cquer y Valle, in her hometown, and who at thirteen received her first prize in a contest of the RHC Cadena Sur in Havana.<\/p>\n

At that time she began a life dedicated to music, to the guitar as an inseparable companion, to the act of creating poetry and putting rhythms to it, passions that gave her the title of La Profunda.<\/p>\n

Trinidad gave her all the diplomas she could, it was the way to recognize a daughter faithful to her origins. There she received the Key of the Casa de la Trova de la Ciudad and the Popularity Award at the Semana de la Cultura Trinitaria.<\/p>\n

She also took all the awards she received in the rest of the island to her museum city to live together: the Diploma for Artistic Merit, the Raul Gomez Garcia Medal and the Distinction for National Culture. The list is long, but those who were close to her know that that woman, guitar in hand and songs on her lips, did not need any award to feel artistic fulfillment.<\/p>\n

Among her photos on the wall: Sara Gonz\u00e1lez, whom she loved like a daughter and with whom she regretted never having sung; Silvio, who left his music in Trinidad in those days when Isabel sang at the Casa de la Trova; Enrique Pineda Barnet, who found in her a frank friendship; and Pablo Milan\u00e9s, with the memory of the guitar he gave her as a gift in his youth.<\/p>\n

Two of his albums, a sonorous testimony of his poetry and sensitivity for trova, were recorded with the French production company Azul, and one with Egrem.<\/p>\n

Last year he told journalist Juan Carlos Naranjo, who came to his corner of Trinidad and Tobago: \"(...) to die, we all have to die, but for me not to be able to play my guitar, that has been my death\".<\/p>\n

On January 20, Isabel left for good, but in her farewell she left the echo of what she always felt so alive: music.<\/p>\n
