I apologize to the Cuban singer-songwriter Amaury Muro for daring to write about my experience when listening to his album A thousand ways to be. Forgive me, because her songs are enough to say what Cuba is choking on between farewells and reunions. I also ask for permission to enter barefoot and from love to those songs. a thousand ways of beingsummarized in eleven musical cuts.

Amaury Muro is a Cuban singer-songwriter, composer and musician who has been living in Spain since 2014. His musical work is part of the singer-songwriter scene and was forged in the heat of La Trovuntivitis and the strong movement of troubadours in the city of Santa Clara. In Cuba, he was founder of the space and group of singer-songwriters Caña Santa, and participated in festivals such as the Longina, the Trovándote and the Romerías de Mayo. A thousand ways to be is his first phonogram and it is enough to ask interesting questions.

How can I be present to my loved ones when geographically there are so many kilometers and sea in between? The question invites me to imagine the process of metamorphosis that means emigrating and becoming a citizen of the world. A proposal to share, musically, the philosophy of the traveler. Yes, because One thousand ways of being is a travel album, a country album, a love album, a "see you soon" album, an embrace phonogram.

When my sister left Cuba of her own accord, Joaquín Borges Triana presented me with this album.. At that time I had no idea who Amaury Muro was. Nor did I know that his musical career is full of international recognitions: winner in 2018 of Festimad, an event organized by the community of Madrid; jury award of the Sabina por aquí singer-songwriter contest, in 2019; winner of the Ibermúsicas award for the creation of songs in 2020; and semifinalist of the Min Awards for independent music in the Best Emerging Artist category, in 2021.

Borges Triana gave Play to the CD in my presence, probably to make me feel the emigration from another perspective; not from pain or reproach, but to understand it with that optimistic longing to which Amaury refers when he says: "Cuba, just thinking about you, cures you". I think of the audacity of continuing to make music about Cuba, even without experiencing its daily life, and I applaud it. Healing and some nostalgia I find in these songs.

That is why, every time a relative, friend or acquaintance leaves, I recommend listening to the thousand ways of being of the troubadour who, from Spain, sang about that open wound carried by those who emigrate. In the sonority of the discographic production I notice the steps of those who come from everywhere and go everywhere, paraphrasing the Maestro. A rhythmic march sustained in all the tracks makes me walk, precisely, so that a son is born to the road.

I listen to the phonogram and, unaware of its existence, I think of Isaac Newton's phrase: "What we know is a drop of water, what we ignore is the ocean". I ask and it turns out that A thousand ways to be is an independent production in 2020. Alas, why didn't I find out sooner? It is sad, but it happens. Ignorance and oblivion, not infrequently, condemns a lot of good music.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="19464" data-permalink="https://magazineampm.com/en/mil-formas-de-estar-amaury-muro/a-muro/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/magazineampm.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/A.-Muro.png?fit=1080%2C707&ssl=1" data-orig-size="1080,707" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-title="A. There is a dialogue with her throughout the songs: "I will go when I have something to give you, when I understand why I left". That is probably the question my sister took with her when she said goodbye.

Emigrating is a normal process, an opportunity to start from scratch even if it costs, even if it hurts. That's what I tell myself when nostalgia takes a place among my things and the troubadour sounds of Amaury Muro are confused with the photograph of my sister on my bedside table. His poetry saves me from judging so many lost affections that, in spite of everything, survive the distance. There are eleven songs to convince me: it is worth the distance and the risk if it is about conquering the road. In the end, to live is to risk walking all the time. No one is exempt from such a risk.

It is also a subtle wink of happiness. An album that speaks to me of Cuba with the universal sonority and the traveling spirit of Amaury Muro, who left the island, lived the positive and negative emotional impact of the distance and transformed it into songs. Accompanied by the guitar, Amaury Muro's repertoire covers traditional Cuban genres such as son, bolero or chachachá, and other more contemporary ones close to pop, rock and reggae.

In A thousand ways to be I appreciate the airs of Brazilian music in the theme. Scar a duet with Leo Minax, and the influences of Jorge Drexler on Glance at glancewith Spanish composer Ro Trejo. The album closes with Beyond youwhere he is accompanied by fellow countrymen José Luis Medina, member of the Cuban group Habana Abierta, and Jorgito Kamankola. This album leaves me with rap in my head:

Beyond believe me, so much to do

Beyond always the sea, mad to set sail

Beyond me: theater and function

Beyond you, doors to open.

(...)

And finally, no one is spared from living.

With this last certainty I try to find a title for what I have just written. I might as well name it "Steps to listen to-live the record A thousand ways to beby Amaury Muro", but I detest instruction manuals. I dislike telling others what to do. Everyone finds their own a thousand ways of being, it doesn't matter if they live inside or outside Cuba. Something tells me that my sister found one or more of them. For the time being, I lose count of the number of times I put the album in the player and I reach the end with the certainty that no one is spared from living.

The album Mil formas de estar, by Cuban troubadour Amaury Muro is a travel album, a country album, a love album, a "see you soon" album, an embrace phonogram.

[10106,25
10525,10529,7904,7940,10526,10528,10142,10527,7876
5666
post-19463","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-opinion","category-resenas","tag-amaury-muro","tag-emigracion","tag-jose-luis-medina","tag-kamankola","tag-mil-formas-de-estar","tag-musicos-cubanos-en-espana","tag-nostalgia","tag-ro-trejo","tag-trova-cubana

https://i0.wp.com/magazineampm.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/A.-Muro-POrtada.png?fit=1816%2C830&ssl=1
["GET
