They broke ground in September 1995 in Sandino, Pinar del Rio. A group of young lovers of heavy sounds and protest lyrics, denouncing the injustices and problems of the world.

The band was founded by four friends with very little musical experience. They wanted to sound and express themselves. A black bird stamped on the drum box. Wings open. The shadow behind.

Alexander Serradet is the only one still active as a musician of those four members. He is the narrating body of the story of Albatross, a group that is still flying 27 years later.

"With no formal training in music, we went out to give cane. Thanks to our insistence, to the people and bands we met on the road, we were polishing ourselves, sometimes starting from scratch when for one reason or another, we were held up waiting for a new partner in the lineup due to the departure of some of the members. We have never been a professional band. We all work on something else and have families to attend to and when these points began to distance us from the music some had to choose only one side: the more personal obligations.

"In the music of Albatross you will hear our point of view on the social, political and environmental problems that affect humanity, because although we are Cubans we prefer to see beyond borders. By 1996, the band decided to venture into other musical paths and joined the ranks of the death metal with nuances thrash. With this new sonority, they are once again performing in the head of the province.

"We were invited to participate in the first Death/Thrash festival, held there in March 1996, we shared the stage with bands like Zeus and Necrophagus."

After this stage of death metalAlbatross decided to reconsider their musical stance. The rehearsal room of the group had its period of silence, while they searched and found the style and the songs that had more to do with the way of thinking and expressing themselves of its members. Then came 10 songs of a rabid hardcore with which they presented themselves for the next two years. In this new version, Alexander Serradet and Herodes Conesa switched roles on the instruments.

"Around 1998 Ernesto Gun Rivera and bassist Herodes Conesa left the band. Pistola joined Trauma (later Médula), a band from the city of Pinar del Río. Herodes left the music scene completely".

The band fell into a lethargy with no replacements for these musicians, but Alexander and Luzmany decided they couldn't stop at that point, and taught a friend named Joe Luis Gonzalez to play drums. Luzmany dropped the drumsticks and took over bass and vocals. They returned to the concerts with more strength, as a trio. And so, as Alex himself tells it, they played all over the country.

"A punk core Rabid, contentious, irreverent and transgressive was what you could feel in the Albatross concerts of those times. Unfortunately, for us and the fans, the band had a new and very sensitive casualty. Luzmany Vivas, director and soul of the band, left for the United States. There were many who thought that this would be the end of the band, but encouraged by many friends, especially by Luzmany himself, I looked for new members, who appeared from among people without any musical experience, but also with a great desire to express themselves through music".

The new wave arrived at the end of 2004 with Freddy Cornelio on bass and Geandy Arango on vocals. With this new line upNow back as a quartet, they decided to make up for lost time and return to touring and national festivals.

"Once again the theme of emigration, so strong in the life of the Cuban, hit the Albatross ranks again when Freddy emigrated to the United States in August 2009."

The danger of extinction stalks them again.
