The role of events in the promotion of Cuban music

This is the first episode of Cuban music: putting the puzzle together, a podcast series on Cuban music and music industry produced by Radio Gladys Palmera, in collaboration with AMPM Producciones and the support of the Embassy of Spain in Cuba, within the framework of the ACERCA Program for Development Training in the Cultural Sector of the Spanish Cooperation.

The role of events in the promotion of Cuban music is the subject of this debate among some of the most important voices in Havana's music scene in terms of cultural management: artist Eme Alfonso, creator of the Havana World Music Festival; singer-songwriter Fito del Río, director of the young Havana Jumbo festival; Yentsy Rangel, coordinator of Jazz Plaza; Claudia Fallarero, specialist of the Esteban Salas Musical Heritage Office, responsible for the Young Pianists Meeting and the Habana Clásica Festival for several years.

Moderated by musicologist Leanelis Cárdenas, they discuss the history and importance of festivals in our music scene; the policy regarding new talents and young artists; the challenges of carrying out this type of events, due to obstacles such as bureaucracy; and the need, therefore, to create new management mechanisms. During the podcast you will be able to listen to tracks by several artists who have gained recognition thanks to their participation in these festivals.
