Alkemi: the new album by Daymé Arocena
Daymé Arocena releases her new album today Friday, February 23rd Alkemi, a very special production not only because it is her first phonogram outside Cuba, but also because, according to the artist, it reflects her processes of self-acceptance and because it has been her most demanding musical project to date.
Daymé has explained in her social networks that the title is the Yoruba translation of the term alchemy, the mixture of "all the elements to achieve an unbeatable result, full of brightness and light, as if gold were coming out of our skin".
To the rhythm of the Cuban clave, published last Wednesday in all platforms For you, which will be the lead single from the new album.
In a series of short videos, the singer/songwriter has been revealing in the last week the musical influences of this album, where she has mentioned notable figures ranging from Stevie Wonder to Beyoncé.
At just 32 years of age, Daymé Arocena has shone on international stages and won awards such as the Juno Award, as well as a Grammy nomination for best jazz album as part of the band Maqueque. According to Félix Contreras, critic and program host for National Public Radio (NPR), Daymé's voice is "a cross between Celia Cruz and Aretha Franklin".
The previews we have witnessed so far, show a Daymé confident of her femininity and proud of her Caribbean and black roots, who will present a phonogram that will gather both her artistic and spiritual maturity, ready to be shared with her audience and the world.
