A very special concert by Aldo López-Gavilán Junco will take place next Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Oratorio San Felipe Neri. The outstanding Cuban pianist will be accompanied by the Havana Chamber Orchestra complemented by musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra, the Havana Lyceum Orchestra and the Ventus Habana Wind Quintet.
As Guest Conductor will be the American Michael Butterman, who is Music Director of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Pennsylvania, as well as the Shreveport Symphony, which has experienced an era of unprecedented artistic growth under his leadership. He also serves as music director of the Williamsburg Symphony and Lancaster Symphony orchestras.
But to the connotation of such an important guest is added the fact that the concert is the Cuban premiere of two symphonic works composed by Aldo. The first, a concerto for clarinet and orchestra dedicated to his grandfather Juan Jorge Junco, and the second, a piece for trumpet and the same orchestral format.
The soloists on this occasion will be clarinetist Alejandro Calzadilla and trumpeter Mayquel González. The event will be perpetuated in audiovisual format under the direction of Rolando Almirante.
