Design: Jennifer Ancizar from the album cover. Olho de Peixe
I first thought of the one from 1997, which was the one I always listened to the most, because I love its sound. It sounds distorted most of the time, but the noise only thins the air more than it makes it dirty; if he ever does, then it is always a necessary mess, like when parents allow their children to play in the mud to create antibodies. I want to think that that sound texture of the guitar plays based on the concept of the album (which, as the title advances, is about the encounter of our culture with another alien), because it reminds of that purr of a walkie-talkie, or of these devices Old radio stations through which curious aliens communicate with a suburban Los Angeles child in movies. And that's another reason why I was about to write today about the Brazilian's third phonographic work: it seems to me more homogeneous than the previous one, both in idea and sound, and also more risky. As an album, with all that that implies, O Dia em que Faremos Contato seems superior to me, what happens is that Olho de Peixe contains, without a doubt, better songs.

Another song that breaks your soul is O que é Bonito, where Lenine and Bráulio Tavares, responsible for the lyrics (a common practice in the Pernambuco career, is to cede the lyrical jurisdiction of the works to other artists, and it must be said which has turned out wonderfully), they give us an aesthetic and moral manifesto, they are sincere, they take off their rags, like this: “Eu quero mais erosão, less granite / (…) Escrever tudo or that I despise and despise everything or that I accredit. / Eu I don't want to tax, I don't. / I want or scream ”. It is the only piece in which the percussionist Marcos Suzano, co-signer of the album, does not appear (although the guitar of the Recife-born man is already quite rhythmic, quite percussive), since it is his most intimate moment. The arrangement here does not want us to be distracted by the tambourine, no matter how rich it sounds, there are ten more songs for that. What you have to do when the sixth track arrives is to look inside. Or que é Bonito is of the race of eternal songs, the kind that anyone sings with the guitar out of tune and they move the same.

Scruple is the tastiest track on the album. Funky, jazzy, folky, progressive, and the mother of tomatoes, it is very difficult to get it out of your head afterwards, especially the guitar passage on which its structure rests. Along with Lá e Lô, it has the boldest sound in the register, anticipating a bit what would come next. I love those keyboards, which take the listener out of the marine climate (because this album was born in a studio in Rio de Janeiro, but was conceived on a northeastern beach) and into an oppressive metal factory of the future. I also love the fairness and swing of Lenine's violent execution, which reminds me of Yusa from Taking the center, because she knows where she is looking.

Summarizing. An elegant and simple job. It contains the finest of the song and the finest of the rhythm. It serves to clean and to die of grief on the sofa. Its protagonists are well presented in the first song Acredite ou não, when they talk about “Tempestad en el desert. Tidal wave in the pool ”, and that everything is strange and strange, that“ Normal só tem você e eu ”. Yes, of course, it will be normal for them, because I am still riding.
