Silvio Rodríguez to release new album on digital platforms

Next Friday, June 7, the album will be launched on the main digital platforms for music consumption I would like to knowby renowned Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez.

Produced at Ojalá Studios between 2019 and 2024, the album was directed and produced by Silvio Rodríguez himself. The recording and mixing was carried out by Olimpia Calderón Arias and Merlín Lorenzo. Likewise, the mastering process was in charge of Orestes Águila, while the design is the work of Arístides Torres.

Regarding the conception of this work, the singer-songwriter said:

"It's hard to name a record. First it was going to be Songs of the 21st century (minus one). Then I thought about Then. Finally, I have decided to I would like to know. Although perhaps it should be called I want to knowbecause that's what moves me.

The only song that is not from this century is the last one, that is: Tonada for two poems by Rubén Martínez Villena. I composed this music in the early 70s, when Roberto Fernández Retamar asked me to make a record with Martí's poems and I told him that I did not dare, because of the quality of those that had been released with the authorship of Pablo Milanés, Sara González and Amaury Pérez.

Then Roberto suggested that I do it with poems by Rubén, a poet and revolutionary of the 1930s, whom we both admired. I managed to set some of his verses to music, but the only thing I decided to show was my approach to these two intense alexandrine quatrains, so current. At that time I recorded a version with Emiliano Salvador, Eduardo Ramos and Leoginaldo Pimentel, members, like me, of that remote Grupo de Experimentación Sonora del ICAIC (GES). I think this new version is also worth it, because of the excellent musicians who accompany me.

The other songs, the current ones, I sang them in many neighborhood concerts. And I think they are like this young and battered century, which I hope one day will grow wings".

The album features the participation of the musicians that usually accompany the troubadour: Jorge Aragón and Frank Fernández (on Blind Angel), on piano; Oliver Valdés on drums and percussion; Emilio Vega on vibraphone and congas; Jorge Reyes on bass; Maykel Elizarde on tres; Rachid López on guitar; flutes, clarinets and backing vocals by Niurka González; Alina Neira on cello; violins I by Javier Cantillo and Anabel Estévez; second violins by Aylin Pino and Jenny Peña; violas by Gretchen Labrada and Osvaldo E. Castro; Roberto Carlos Ramírez and Carolina Rodríguez on cellos; choirs of Malva Rodríguez and Silvio Rodríguez on guitar, vihuela, percussions and vocals.

Prior to the release, the following singles will be available on digital platforms I would like to know (May 24) and America (May 31).
